Hello everyone! Fall is in the air! Halloween is approaching! This is one of my favorite months of the year! I look forward to the change in the season and the roasted pumpkin seeds each fall!
In honor of fall I will be having an 'October Special' in my TpT store. During the month of October my products will be 'Buy 3 get 1 free'. And here's how it works! Buy 3 products in my store and then send me an email letting me know who you are and which 4th product you would like for free. Just remember that the 4th product must be equal or lesser in value than the most expensive of the 3 products you purchased. Just drop me an email at going2mountains@yahoo.com and I will email you your free product. It's that simple!
Happy shopping and enjoy the fall season!

Social Studies Matching Vocabulary Cards
Today my students were introduced to some map vocabulary. They enjoyed looking at the pictures, figuring out the words, and discussing their meanings in small groups. Here is a photo of these cards on the pocket chart. If your interested in these vocabulary cards, just scroll through my TpT products on the top right of my blog. You'll find this product there.

Great Bulletin Board
My teammate, Beth, made an adorable bulletin board recently. I just had to take a photo of it! We had read the Mixed Up Chameleon by Eric Carle and she had her students create their own chameleon. Then she had them put adjectives describing their chameleon around their creation. I loved it so much I had to put in on my blog! Great idea Beth!

2nd grade
The last few weeks have been so busy!!! I moved from kindergarten to 2nd grade and even though I have taught 2nd grade before there are some new programs in place that take some getting used to. We have been in school for two weeks now and I have to say that I love this group of 2nd graders! I am very lucky to have a great class. They are a lot of fun!
I have been trying to remember to take photos as I go along to share. Now that things are settling down, I have time to devote to my blog again.
Yesterday the children were reviewing coins. We created an adorable book that I had printed off of Enchanted Learning. During activities, involving cutting, I really dislike the traffic of children getting up and down out of their seats to throw their scraps away. To solve this problem I purchased little trash baskets for each table. Problem solved!!! My students can throw their trash in the basket and later the teacher helper can empty each one. I love the fact that it keeps the students in their areas and alleviates the foot traffic around the classroom. It also helps to keep the classroom neater. Something so simple makes life in the classroom so much easier!

Beginning and Ending Sounds Literacy Station
I recently had the honor of reviewing one of Erica Hildebrand's products! Her "Beginning and Ending Sounds Literacy Station" product is great for pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. Children have the opportunity to practice beginning and ending sounds using pictures of animals (and we know how much children adore animals!) There are cards provided that have letters at the top to assist struggling students. As those struggling children progress they can graduate to the cards without the letters. This is a great activity for independent or partner centers.
I would laminate these cards and place them in a tub or basket. Children can add the beginning and ending sounds using small plastic letters, which are available at local teacher's stores. Another version is to place the cards on a magnetic surface. Students love to use magnetic letters!
Hop on over to Erica's blog or her Teachers Pay Teachers Store and check it out! You'll love it!

Banners! Banners! Banners!
Now that you have made a banner, let's move on and make a side column banner for your TpT store!
I am LOVING all the wonderful banners that my fellow TpT sellers have made! They are colorful, creative, and fun! I am so happy that I could help so many fellow teachers create a banner easily and quickly. Sometimes technology is our best friend, while other times we want to throw those computers off a high rise building!!!
So, if you have made a banner for your store, you are probably ready to make a side column banner. I don't see many fellow sellers with side banners and that may be because they are unsure of the size. Well, don't worry! I took that problem out of the equation! I created a template, just as I did with the top banner. The directions are the same. Have fun decorating your side column banner! I look forward to seeing the finished products. (Oh and by the way, you can find the templates for both the top and side banners in my TpT store or click below. You can also find a blog banner template if you are creating one for your blog!)
